College Essay Prompt #3 Draft

It was the end of freshman year and i was able to finish the school year with a 3.2 GPA. I was really proud of myself that I was able to pass the school year with a GPA of 3.0 and above. My parents were also very proud of me but kept on telling me that i could've done better. "If only you weren't lazy and stopped procrastinating you would at least have gotten a 3.8 or even a 4.0", my Mom said. That being said i was also very disappointed in myself because i knew if i didn't give in to video games and other things that would distract me i would at least gotten better grades.
Summer vacation has just finished and it was the first day of school and my first day of being a sophomore. I remember praying to God before arriving at school and asking him that i would have a good school year and that i would do better than freshman year. I also asked him if i could make it in the basketball team this year. After that prayer i was reminded of my mom telling me that she knows i would've done better if i wasn't lazy. So when i arrived at school i was happy to see my friends again and my teachers. That year i was taking Geometry, Language Arts 2, Broadcast Media, Physical Education, Physics, and U.S History. Looking at my schedule I was excited that the courses i wanted was there and that i was taking "easy classes" except broadcast since it was very new to me and i knew it would take time for me to get the hang of it.
The first month of school has gone by and my parents would always check on my grades and remind me whats due for each week. As she was logging into the online gradebook I wasn't too worried because i was confident that i have done well so far and i was really looking forward to compliments coming out of my mom's mouth. When she logged in, she was very surprised. Guessing from her facial expression i thought she was very surprised in a good way and that she was proud of me. But when she made me look at my grades, I too was very surprised. I really thought I was doing well in school and that i would have nothing to worry about for this year. But it was my tests that killed my grades and my mom was really upset.
My mom grounded me and took away my iPod touch and my privilege to play basketball with my friends every last day of school of each week. I begged her though to let me play basketball with my friends every friday after school. But my mom reminded me if I was on the basketball team, do you really think that they would let you play the games with those kind of grades? I was really upset that day and luckily she really made me think about that question. Both my parents knows that i can do better, so they made me stay grounded until i get my grades back up. From that day on i took my classes more seriously and made sure that i wouldn't forget to study for my tests and of course do my homework. This is the event that really helped me in my next two years of high school.
This event really changed my goals on being a basketball player. My goal back then was to be on the basketball team and to also do well in my studies so that i wouldn't let down my parents any longer. From what my mom kept telling on the end of my freshman year really impacted me on how i looked in my classes. I used to always think that my classes were going to be very easy but now i would always think that they are going to be a challenge but all i have to do is to put effort into everything i do.

  1. I NEED YOU TO POST THE PROMPT WITH YOUR ESSAY SO THAT I KNOW WHAT THE PURPOSE OF THE ESSAY IS AND IF IT MATCHES. ALSO THROUGH READING YOU ESSAY IT SEEMS A BIT TOO MUCH OF JUST A SUMMARY OF EVENTS NOTHING TOO SPECIAL AND ONLY AT THE END DO YOU TALK ABOUT HOW THESE THINGS AFFECTED YOU. MY ADVICE A LOT LESS STORY AND MORE ON HOW IT AFFECTED YOU. AGAIN THE STORY NEEDS A LITTLE MORE "PIZAZZ" BECAUSE IT DOES GET A BIT BORING AFTER AWHILE. AS(2-)
