1. The essay that I liked the most was about the H3 freeway, it's because of how
he was concerned of the Hawaiian ancestral remains that are buried in that location.
2. I like how he research but need more improvements in details.
3. The Ideas is one of his successful work.
4. I would like to see more improvements on organizing your Ideas.

H-3 Freeway
The H-3 freeway is actually one of the most historical places in Hawaii. Its a historical site because of the challenges Hawaii took to finish building the H-3 freeway. Its also a historical site because of the many changes that made Hawaii a better place. Another reason why the H-3 freeway is a historical place is because the H-3 is one of the nations most spectacular mountain drives in the nation.
The H-3 freeway (also known as the John A. Burns Freeway) first opened on December 12, 1997. The Freeway was the most beautiful and controversial highway ever built in Hawaii. That day also marked the end of the 37 years of the protests, legal battles, design changes and cost revisions against the H-3 being built. Community activists, environmentalists, and native Hawaiians were the ones that protested against the H-3. The Native Hawaiians were apart of this because the H-3 was built on top of a woman’s heiau or a sacred site for the Hawaiians.
During those 37 years, there were many Native Hawaiians that were upset with the government and wanted the H-3 from ever happening. Because of its location and the many cultural sites of the hawaiians led to many conflicts to building the H-3. This was one of the most dangerous one of the most spent projects hawaii ever faced upon making a 16 mile freeway.
Building the H-3 Freeway has also cost many injuries and 2 deaths to constructing it. On June 15 1990, there was a carpenter named Orlindo Domingo, at the age of 52, died when a 47 ton bridge accidentally slipped and fell 50 feet. Also on Jan 26, 1995, there was also a carpenter Steven J. Ouderkirk, at the age of 28, died when the concrete wall collapsed on him near the Haleiwa stream bed.

Although there were many conflicts into building this 25 year project, the result of building the H-3 freeway has been one of the most used freeways in the state. Now drivers finally have relief when it comes to going in and out of the North Shore. The Freeway was also previewed in the show Modern Marvels special episode SuperHighways because of how it was built on this small island.

Essay H-3
Rough Draft (Kc3)
There are many historical places in Hawaii and one of them is the H-3 freeway. Out of all the historical places of Hawaii I would have never thought that the H-3 would be a historical place. But after all the research I’ve done, I was very surprised of seeing how building the H-3 was one of the most controversial issue in the state of Hawaii.

Querencia Final
The day has finally come to an end. School, homework and chores are finally done. Now its time to look for a place to just be alone and relax. The first thing that pops into my mind was my room. As I head into my room, I notice my sister using my laptop doing her homework while blasting her favorite music. I try to force her out of my room but she just won't listen to me. So I look around the house for a quiet place but it was all packed with family. Then finally I decided to head outdoors and be one with nature. So I decided to go to my backyard. As i opened the door I felt a slight breeze that came right past me. I layed in the middle of my backyard and stared into the sky. I saw lots of stars that day and I remember connecting each star to see if it was a form of a constellation. Sadly it wasn't, and it was hard to connect while those slow moving clouds cover them. After waiting for the clouds to pass by, I saw a moon. It was the biggest moon I've ever seen I thought to myself. Then I could hear crickets singing and felt as if they were singing a lullaby to me. I was getting really cold at that time because of the nice and cold breeze that coming at me. I felt like nature was taking care of me that night. Noticing that it was getting late, I head back inside. As I was about to open the door and walk to my room, the wind picked up again. It was as if nature were sadly saying good-bye to me and telling me to come back again.
I never thought my backyard would be a peaceful place. I thought it was just a place where i do laundry and store all my junk in. But now my backyard is like my own world. Being here felt like I was finally free from Earth and in my own planet where I can do whatever i want and no ones the boss of me. This place will now and forever be my special place. Its a place where no one can disturb me and also a place where I can calm down and thank God for creating this place and everything else.

Brainstorm
This may look like an ordinary picture but this is where it all began. Its where my childhood house used to be. That balcony was a place where I go to everyday and just stare at the amazing view. Our house was so tall that the houses under me were small like little ants. Thinking this makes me feel so invincible because it felt like my house was a kingdom. My balcony was the best place not only because of its beautiful views but also the peace and quiet there was in that place. This was my only favorite place that i have at my house.

Final Draft
Finally arriving home from school, I head to my room tiredly and hit straight for the bed. As I wait for someone to notice, I lay there on my bed trying to think of why/how I got sick. Then finally, my mom comes to my room and sees me on the bed, looking very horrible than usual and rushes to the medicine cabinet. So she quickly grabs the thermometer, puts it under my tongue, than holds it for me. I could see her face worried and praying that I don't have a fever. As the thermometer goes off, I can see my mom looking at the thermometer's reading very happily and says to me," Its alright Ranyl, you don't have a fever so I guess you have a cold." I was so glad when my mom told me this because if I was really sick, than i would have to miss a lot of school days and especially miss a lot of classwork. " The medicine you need right now is a bowl of soup!", my mom says. " Can you make me pinapaitan for dinner please Mom?", I asked. " Alright then Ranyl I will", my mom said. So she rushes out of the room and into the kitchen to get ready to make pinapaitan.Pinapaitan is actually beef innards stew. To make Pinapaitan, the ingredients you would need is ox tripe, small intestine, beef, cows heart, tablespoons of bile, ginger julienned, onions, dice, and garlic (crushed or chopped).
As my mom was cooking pinapaitan, I stayed in my room laying down on my bed trying to hold in my hunger for pinapaitan. Its so good because of its ever astonishing smell that has while its being cooked. It also has this taste where no one in this world can ever described. As I was trying to hold in my hunger, I remember the time when I first had pinapaitan. At that time I think i was either 7 or 8 years old when I first had this and I could remember my mom cooking it for my dad when he had a cold. When my mom finished cooking the soup, she made me set up the table and told me and reminded my dad and i to go wash our hands. After that I remember myself being so empty minded because I had no idea what this soup was. When i asked my mom what it was she said that its called pinapaitan. So she grabbed my bowl and poured some into the bowl. I grabbed my spoon and took just enough for my spoon to be filled. I slowly put the spoon in and out of my mouth so i could get a full scan on the soup's taste. Once I swallowed that soup I remember having a big smile on my face. When i tasted that soup, I quickly asked my mom if she put anything in this soup that would make people go crazy. I felt as if I could run around the world in a blink of an eye. That night my dad and mom was very happy that I liked the soup and told me that I can eat it when i don't feel well.
Finally, I could hear my mom calling me and saying, " THE FOOD IS READY! And don't forget to wash your hands!". So I got up and off my bed and ran straight to the bathroom washing my hands. Then finally i get to eat the best homemade soup i ever had in my life today. So as soon as i grabbed my spoon, I looked to make sure i grabbed a lot of soup and the beef that was in there. Once it was in my mouth, it felt like a party was going on in my mouth and especially in my stomach. Its as if my body was also excited to digest the soup and the beef because its so delicious. As i keep on eating and eating, my mom tells me of how she learned how to make this pinapaitan.
The person that taught my mom how to make pinapaitan was my grandpa(her dad). He wanted my mom to learn how to make this soup because making pinapaitan was a family tradition and it was his favorite soup. It is a family tradition because my grandpa was a butcher. He would get all the ingredients not by store but doing it the old fashioned the way. He would go to Waianae and kill the cow (cattle) himself and get what he needs to make this soup. My grandpa learned how to make pinapaitan from my great grandfather. Back then when my grandpa was 15 years old, he used to tag along with my great grandfather to go kill the cow to sell and they take the internal organs (intestines) to make the soup.

Getting home from school, I tiredly walk to my room and hit straight to the bed. There I am, lying down on my bed very sick and await for someone to notice. Then finally 15 minutes later, my mom comes to my room and sees me on the bed, not looking so well. She feels my neck and forehead to check if i have fever or not. When she finds out that I do have fever or not. When she found out that I do have fever, she goes to the kitchen and takes out the ingredients and everything she needs to make the soup called Pinapaitan.
Pinapaitan is actually beef innards stew. To make this you would need ox tripe, small intestine, beef, cows heart, tablespoons of bile, ginger julienned, onions, dice, and garlic (crushed or chopped).
The reason why my mom is going to make pinapaitan whenever im sick because she knows that this soup would make me feel a lot of stronger and better than before. This soup is too good that i can't actually come up with words to describe it. But whenever I do eat this soup i just wanna get up and dance and share this to everybody I know.
The person that taught my mom how to make pinapaitan was my grandpa (her mom). The reason why my grandpa wanted her to learn how to make this was not only because he wanted my mom to share this with her own family, but to also make it for him. At that time when my grandpa taught my mom to make this soup my grandpa was really sick and was craving for pinapaitan. So he told my mom to watch and learn how to make this soup so next time when he gets sick, my mom would be there to make this soup and he wouldn't have to.
